This summer God has very clearly spoken that He wants us as His people here in Birchwood, Warrington to get back to what really matters. Almost the last words of Jesus when He was on earth were that we should “Go and make disciples”, which is followed by the promise that “surely I am with you always.” So we are going to focus on what this means for us today under the title “The Demands of Discipleship”.

The Bible pictures the church as Jesus' bride. Just imagine Jesus waiting at the front, turning around to catch His first glimpse of the one He loves most of all...What does Jesus look for in His church? He tells us in Revelation chapters 2 and 3, and we will study His messages to the 7 churches in Asia Minor to learn what matters to Jesus in His church here in Birchwood.

"Put first things first". "The main thing in life is to keep the main thing the main thing". We have all heard this advice, but it is easier said than done. What are the priorities that we need to keep in mind as we walk with Jesus as His disciples? Our new teaching series is called "One thing" and we pray that it will help us get to the heart of what really matters in life and not get distracted by lesser issues.

Living as a Christian is not about a set of do's and don'ts, it is a relationship with Jesus - he commits himself to us and we follow him as his disciples. In this series, "Jesus said I will...", we will look at what Jesus has graciously promised to do for us and that we cab rely on in our lives.

Our first series in 2017, following the Covenant Service, is based on the term ‘Paraclesis’.

This is built around the Greek word, ‘Paraklesis’ which is found over 140 times in the New Testament. It means ‘to come alongside someone, to help, care for, comfort, support, encourage’.

In 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, Paul says,  “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God”.

So, as we start a new year together, we hope to discover over 6 weeks how we can come alongside others in our church and our community to bring the comfort, healing and restoration that we ourselves experience from the Lord.

OUR CALL to Discipleship: Lessons from Philippians.

Jesus said, ‘Follow me’. This was His call to the first disciples and today, Jesus’ call to us is still, ‘Follow me’. What is a true disciple, in 2017? What does it mean, to walk in Jesus’ footsteps and to follow Him for the rest of our lives? What difference does Christ make?

Over the next 7 weeks, in the run-up to Easter, we will unpack this theme together as we walk through Paul’s letter to the Philippians.

After Easter, we will develop the theme with 2 further series:
